Our Pictures

This website has lots of pictures of the fish that we offer for sale. Will the fish you get look like the fish in our pictures?

No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship.

Not so small that they will not do well when shipped.

Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

Freshwater Barracuda.   This picture shows three young 5" long Freshwater Gar Fish swimming together. These fish usually stay together along side one another in a group. They can grow to be 9" long and probably live for many years.
Freshwater Gar Fish are predators that eat fish that will fit into their mouths. Like most predaceous fish they will ignore most fish that they can't swallow. This fish is also called a Blunt Nosed Car, Gar Characin, and Hujeta Gar.

Appropriate Home
Eventually a very large aquarium with an exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, and a maximum of 1/4-inch of gravel. The water temperature should be between 75 and 80 degrees F. Click here for general information about warm water aquariums.

Recommended Diet
When they are young, Freshwater Gar Fish eat small fish such as guppies, live and frozen brine shrimp, and small worms such as Black Worms. Click here to read more about Black Worms.
Click here for more general information about feeding fish.

We have kept a few Freshwater Gar Fish in our aquariums for a few weeks, until they were acclimated and ready to be shipped to the customers, who ordered them, so we don't feel qualified to discuss compatibility. The Freshwater Gar Fish, shown in the video at the top of this page, live in a very large aquarium with several other Freshwater Gar Fish, a few Anostomus species, and several Anableps. A Plecostomus Catfish would also be a compatible tank mate for Freshwater Gar Fish. Click here to read more about several other groups of compatible fish.

Size and Lifespan
The Freshwater Gar Fish can grow to 9" long. This species probably lives for several years.
