This is a very beautiful and interesting fish, which is closely related to the Gouramis, and like most Gouramis it naturally lives in water with low pH and low oxygen.

Unlike Gouramis this species is a predator that ambushes small fish and surrounds them with its huge extended mouth.

This is probably a fish that we should recommend to so-called advanced aquarists.

It's also a mouthbrooder that has spawned in aquariums.

Scientific name: Luciocephalus aura

These mini-catfish are not Tetras, but they're very compatible with small Tetras, and they're very good aquarium fish. Of course these mini-catfish are much bigger than small Tetras, even so Ghost Catfish don't bother smaller fish. Also these catfish swim up off the bottom of the aquarium, which makes them even more interesting to watch.

Ghost Catfish love to eat premium foods.

About Wild Fish
We prefer to buy tank raised fish, if they're available from fish farmers, but many of the fish on this page are not available from fish farmers, so we buy them from collectors of wild fish.

Many wild species of fish are seasonal and not available all year. When we need wild fish, and they are available, we usually buy extras and hold them in our facilities.

Even so we do not have all of the species, shown on this page, all of the time. We recommend that you add this page to your favorites/bookmarks to make it easy for you to check back here from time to time and see which species are available.
