A very nice aquarium fish, which is mild tempered, hardy, and easy to breed. But requires frequent partial water changes and does better with lots of water movement.

Originally from
Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina in South America.

Scientific name: A so-called Loricaria (species). The exact genus and species is unknown to us. We've been told that Loricaria is being split, and perhaps this fish is Rineloricaria parva.

This is a wonderful aquarium fish, which can grow to be about 5" long, and as you can see, it's very beautiful. It's also mild tempered, eats algae off live plants without damaging the plants, and it's very hardy. Highly recommended.

We've heard from several sources that this species eats lots of wood in its natural habitat, and so it might need a piece of driftwood in its aquarium. Generally we like and recommend aquarium-safe natural drift wood, but in our aquariums this Pleco eats mostly premium fish food flakes and pellets.

Our Pictures

This website has lots of pictures of the fish that we offer for sale. Will the fish you get look like the fish in our pictures?

No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship.

Not so small that they will not do well when shipped.

Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

About Wild Fish
We prefer to buy tank raised fish, if they're available from fish farmers, but many of the fish on this page are not available from fish farmers, so we buy them from collectors of wild fish.

Many wild species of fish are seasonal and not available all year. When we need wild fish, and they are available, we usually buy extras and hold them in our facilities.

Even so we do not have all of the species, shown on this page, all of the time. We recommend that you add this page to your favorites/bookmarks to make it easy for you to check back here from time to time and see which species are available.
