Our Pictures

This website has lots of pictures of the fish that we offer for sale. Will the fish you get look like the fish in our pictures?

No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship.

Not so small that they will not do well when shipped.

Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

Scientific Name
Trichogaster chuna.

Comments
This is a wonderful fish with a rather mild temperament but active and hardy. The males are brightly colored, and females are not colorful. This fish occurs naturally over a wide range in India and
Bangladesh. There are at least two color varieties available for aquariums now. The Honey Gourami and the Sunset Honey Gourami, which has a more orange coloration.

Honey Gouramis are good tank mates for Neon Tetras, fancy guppies, and other small very mild fish. Click here to read more about Neon Tetras and other small compatible fish. Click here to buy Honey Gouramis.

Appropriate Home
An aquarium with at least 30-gallons of water with a small exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, a maximum of 1/4-inch of gravel, and an aquarium heater adjusted to between 75 and 80 degrees F. Click here for more about warm water aquariums. Honey Gouramis, like most types of Gouramis, live best in a group with at least 3 males, and about twice as many females. So you might decide to order 3 males and 5 females. One male and one female, or two males, is not a good combination.

Recommended Diet
Floating flake food for tropical fish, which is available in most stores that sell pet fish. Click here for more about feeding fish. I feed these fish a few Black Worms every other day. Click here for more about Black Worms.

Compatibility
Honey Gouramis will do well with Neon Tetras, Glowlight Tetras, Black Phantom Tetra, and Harlequin Rasboras. Click here to buy these fish. Here are some more fish that are good tank mates for Honey Gouramis: White Clouds, Glass Fish, Corydoras Catfish, Fancy Guppies, and a few Ghost Shrimp.

Size and Life Span
Honey Gouramis may grow to 2.5" and sometimes even 2.75" but rarely seen bigger than 1.5" in aquariums. Honey Gouramis can live for a few years when given excellent care.

Customer Comments

Hello, I noticed that you don't have a picture of a Honey Gourami and thought you might like one. This is one of the 6 that we purchased from you a few months ago and they are all doing very well. I think this one must be a female since she has little color. We have 2 that are very dark along their bottom edge and head. Can we assume they are males? The other 4 have the same coloring as the one in the picture with a faint grayish streak across their middles which is sometimes not visible at all.

They are so fun to watch but seem timid about getting photographed. We've found that they get along well with just about anything else in the tank and aren't the least bit aggressive. We also have one Pink Kissing Gourami that we "rescued" and they even seem to get along with him. They've sort adopted him into their group which I found rather strange, but heart warming none the less.

Enjoy the picture and I'll try to get one of the males soon.

Reply. Hello Lesley. Thank you for your picture.

We're glad to hear that the Honey Gouramis you got from us are all doing well, and you are correct about the coloration. The Honey Gourami in the picture looks like a female or possibly a young male that is not in breeding coloration.

The Honey Gouramis that are "very dark along their bottom edge and head" are males. We would appreciate a picture of one of your males.

I enjoyed reading your comments and agree with you that Honey Gouramis are very good aquarium fish. Thanks again.
