Great site!!!!!!!! x100. I'm 14 and a fish lover. I first started out with pink and black cichlids. My mom bought a nice tank for our living room and then I bought 2 tanks for my room ... One tank is 25-gallon and has 1 Pacu, 2 Oscars, 3 Black Cichlids, and 1 Silver Needle Nose Gar. My 40 gall. has 1 10 inch. Oscar.

My moms tank has about 40 fry cichlids. I was very happy when I saw the little fry. I didn't know that the 2 cichlids would breed until my mom showed me the fry. Its a great experience!  But anyways GREAT WEBSITE, BEST WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU NEED TO WIDEN YOUR CHOICES OF CHICLIDS. JUST AFTICANS AND ANGELS AREN'T MUCH. I THINK MY NEXT TANK WILL BE A SOUTH AMERICAN COMMUNITY TANK AND I AM LOOKING FOR DWARF CHICLIDS LIKE RAMS, KRIBS AND APISTOGRAMMAS. i'M SURPRIZED THAT YOU DONT CARRY THEM.

Reply. Hello Scott. We have consciously decided not to carry the fish you mentioned. Rams and Apistogrammas are small Cichlids from streams in the Amazon. They don't ship very well for us, have a short lifespan of 2 to 3 years, and prefer soft acid water, which differs from the water that most aquarists in the U.S. have in their aquariums. Kribs are small Cichlids from streams in West Africa, and they also need soft acid water.

Fish like these from streams with soft acid water are much more difficult to keep in aquariums than fish from the lakes in East Africa, that have hard alkaline water.

We find that most customers prefer the small Cichlids from Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, Click here to see them. They live for many years and prefer hard alkaline water like most aquarist have in their aquariums. These African Cichlids are much better suited to life in an aquarium, and most aquarists enjoy them more than the fish you mentioned.

I hope this has gotten to the right department, but I simply would like
to know how reliable your pictures are in giving the buyer a good impression of certain species.

Particularly, I would really like to  know if the picture you display of a green terror is accurate. It seems to me that in all my years of cichlid keeping, I have never seen or heard of green terrors with the incredible green coloration your site shows.

Thanks for helping me with this question.
Ryan

Reply. Hello Ryan. You ask a good question. We have had a number of problems with the pictures. At the time that I write this, there are over 500 pictures on this web site. Some are really bad and out of focus. But they are the best we have, so we post them.

On the other hand some are much better, and we post them too. The picture you mention of the Green Terror is very colorful. This fish was living in an aquarium with a black bottom, which always intensifies the coloration of any fish.

The coloration also depends on the amount of light and type of flash used to take the picture. Click on the next line to see many other pictures of Green Terrors from other websites.

These fish have about the same sort of coloration as seen in our picture. Now click on the next line.

color="#0000FF"http://images.google.com/images?q=green+terror+cichlid ... h=596color="#0000FF"

Notice the great  variety of these fish, although apparently they are all pictures of Green Terrors.

We certainly do not ever try to exaggerate the coloration of our fish to our potential customers, but it is really beyond our capability to take pictures that always depict the fish just the way you might see them in our facility.

We usually take several pictures of the same fish, and then choose the best picture, not the worst picture.
